Junior Sailing
The Junior Sailing and One-Design Racing Program (JSORP) at Shoreline Yacht Club, now in its second year, teaches kids between the ages of 10 and 17 the joys of safe and proper handling of small keel boats. Members' children, as well as children from the community at large, learn boating safety, sailing and sailboat racing. We provide an enriching, safe, and fun sailing experience for kids through day sailing, sailboat racing, and other marine activities that will foster a lifelong appreciation of yachting.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
JSORP trains kids to handle Cal20s. Lessons include rigging, basic sailing, rules of the road, and racing techniques. Students get to learn basic sailing anew or to hone skills already gained, both on-the-water and in the classroom.
JUNIOR SAILING SCHEDULE
The next Junior Sailing beginners’ class at Shoreline Yacht Club will be the weekends of June 12/13, 19/20, 26/27. A second beginners’ class will be July 17/18, 24/25, 31/01. An Intermediate Class will be offered the weekends of September 11/12 and 25/26. An ASA (American Sailing Association) certified keel-boat instructor teaches our Junior sessions.
