Dear Prospective Member,
We are very happy that you are interested in joining our organization and that we share a common interest – Boating!
By becoming a member of our club, one of the greatest benefits you will receive is the opportunity to use your boat more often, while having much more fun doing so.
Case in point: Our Club sponsors ten cruises every year, which typically brings out over sixty of our member’s boats and makes us the most active cruising club in Southern California. We also have an active sailboat racing program, predicted log racing, scuba diving, angling, social events, education, junior sailing and many more activities for members to participate in.
Other important benefits of membership are the automatic reciprocal privileges you will receive at many of the yacht clubs along the entire coast of California; Chicago; and Hawaii too! And if learning about boating is important to you, our club has received recognition for the quality of the education programs that we offer. In 2009, the Southern California Yachting Association named our club “Yacht Club of the Year”, an honor we have achieved 9 times over the last 11 years.
Our beautiful 10,000 square foot clubhouse is located in Shoreline Marina and is owned by our membership. The well-planned and modern facility includes meeting rooms; a dining room with capacity to seat nearly 100 guests; a professional kitchen; and a full service bar with a large lounge.
Food service is available Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in our dining room. The bar is open in the evenings and staffed on weekend nights. On weekdays, our honor bar allows members to purchase beer and wine. Both areas of the club are great places to gather and socialize with other members. And as a Member, you will receive the added privilege of sharing our fine facility with your guests, seven days a week during regular club hours.
Club membership is affordable with a one-time initiation fee of $1000.00, and monthly dues of $75.00. Should you be interested in becoming a member, please fill out the attached application form and return it to the club. If you need additional information, please contact me at your convenience.
Thank you for your consideration in joining our club!
Sincerely,
Risa K. Scott

11 Great Reasons to Join Shoreline Yacht Club

Use Your Boat More Often. Our many club activities will give you more reasons to get out on your boat, and reciprocal agreements with other yacht clubs in the US and abroad allow for use of their facilities by simply presenting your SYC membership card when away from home port.
Great Social Activities. Ever wonder what to do on the weekend? The club will help fill your agenda with our many social events.
Cruises, Cruises, Cruises. We have one of the most active cruise groups in the area. With ten cruises scheduled every season, it is not uncommon to have sixty of our members’ boats show up to join in the festivities.
Boating Safety and Education Classes. Our club offers an accredited program in boater education taught by members of the United States Power Squadron and the United States Coast Guard, in addition to other classes taught by our members and other professionals.
Great Angling. Whether you are an avid fisherman or the occasional angler, you will have an opportunity to improve your skills with the wide variety of seminars taught by noted fishermen. You will learn what you need to know to land the big one, and then you can head out on the water to reel ‘em in.
Racing, Racing, Racing. We sponsor a wide variety of sailboat racing series, and your SYC membership allows you to participate in other clubs’ races from all over the area. For cruisers or power boaters, there are also numerous opportunities to crew on fellow members’ boats.
Predicted Log Racing. Whether you are a power boater or a sailor, we have an impressive program in predicted log racing for which our club holds many trophies and honors. We also have programs and seminars to get you involved if you are new to the sport.
SARA. The Shoreline Amateur Radio Association is a group of SYC members who are amateur radio operators dedicated to serving Shoreline Yacht Club and the local community. SARA operates and maintains Radio Station K6SYC at Shoreline Yacht Club. They also maintain SYC’s Marine Radio station, KYL910, in support of SYC’s on-the-water activities and the K6SYC weather station at the club.
Diving, Diving, Diving. Whether above the water or below, our club is the place to have fun with organized dives that are scheduled several times per season.
Great Food. Come dine with fellow members on Friday and Saturday evenings, or on Sunday for brunch. The galley offers great meals at very affordable prices. And don’t forget to bring your guests!
Make New Friends. Perhaps the best reason to join is all the new friends you will make who share similar interests. Our club is filled with people you will want to know!
Applying for Membership
Please fill out the attached Membership Application form and return it to the Club.
A membership can have up to two persons which can include a couple; boat partners; business partners; friends; etc. (Note: a person joining as a single member can add a second person at a later date.) If two persons join together, the information for each individual must be listed on the application form. All club correspondence will be mailed to the address for the first person listed on the application.
Our by-laws require that to join our club, membership candidates must be sponsored by at least two current club members who are in good standing. If you do not know any club members, our membership committee will be happy to introduce you to members who will help to get you sponsored.
Along with your completed and signed membership application, please include a check or credit card for your initiation fee and first month’s dues in the following amount to begin the application process (unless there is a waiting list; see below)
Members: $1075 (Initiation fee plus first month’s dues = $1000 + $75) A convenient payment plan is available upon request.
You may choose to save 10% on your monthly dues by paying for the entire year in advance. The total for the year is $810.00 (12 months x $75 – 10 %.) We do not deposit your fees until after your membership has been approved by the Board of Directors.
After your application is received, it will pass through the membership committee and then be forwarded to the Board of Directors for approval at their next scheduled meeting. If you were not introduced to SYC by a Membership Committee member, you will be contacted by a committee member for an informal discussion and introduction; this process ensures that all prospective members understand the obligations of membership.
A waiting list is started when the club’s membership reaches a cap of 400 members. In the event that your application is received while a waiting list is in effect, you will be placed on the list and be required to submit a $200 application fee in lieu of the full initiation fee and first month’s dues stated above.
Once an opening becomes available (usually a few per month,) the Board of Directors will review your application and you will be contacted. Upon approval, the $200 application fee you submitted with your application will be applied toward the initiation fee. The remainder of the initiation fee plus at least one month’s dues will be due and payable at that time. If you withdraw your application while on the waiting list, $50 of your initiation fee will be retained and credited towards the processing of your application, and the balance of $150 will be refunded to you.
