Dear Prospective Member,
We are very happy that you are interested in joining our organization and that we share a common interest
We wish to tell you how a regular membership in the Shoreline Yacht Club of Long Beach enhances your opportunities to enjoy boating; either by coastal cruising, sailboat racing, predicted log, day sailing, fishing, SCUBA, or by just hanging at the dock with your boating friends. Located in the downtown Shoreline Marina, the yacht club offers slippage at newly-rebuilt marina docks near our Clubhouse, where many of our members’ boats are berthed. From there you have quick access to Long Beach Harbor;sailing after only a few minutes of departing your slip, whether going for a short day sail around the harbor, or heading out Queen’s Gate with fellow cruisers to explore our cruising venue. Day sailing opportunities are enhanced by our fleet of six Cal20s available for member use. On the SYC cruises your Catalina destinations will include Avalon, Isthmus Cove, White’s Cove, Emerald Cove, and Cat Harbor.
Along the coast to the southeast destinations include Newport Bay, Dana Point and Oceanside harbors, Mission Bay, and various sites in San Diego Bay. To the northwest there’s Cabrillo Beach, Marina Del Rey, Paradise Cove; and Channel Islands, Ventura, and Santa Barbara harbors. Cruises to Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz islands also a wait!
Shoreline Yacht Club sponsors about 30 sailboat races a year. Many are local Club buoy races, but included are the “There and Back” winter regatta to Avalon, the Franklin D. Ross Memorial Platform to Queen Mary Regatta (single-hand), and the Long Beach to Dana Point race of Labor Day weekend.
We’re also a member of the Southern California Cruiser Association. SCCA member clubs sponsor several predicted log (Cruiser Navigation) events each year. The events are navigation contests akin to a road rally on land. Vessels of all kinds (including sailing vessels) compete in a friendly competition that is not about speed, just navigation accuracy. Many of them involve a cruise to other yacht clubs and other destinations including Catalina Island. Then there’s more boating opportunity with our annual Halibut Derby and regular diving we do at places like Indian Rocks at Catalina Island.
Another important boating benefit of an SYC membership is the reciprocal privileges you will receive at more than 50 yacht clubs along the length of the California coast; Chicago; and Hawaii too! Using reciprocities you may individually visit many fine yacht clubs by boat or by car. Make new friends; dine in delightful waterfront venues, or just relax at the bar or on the deck sipping a favorite beverage. And if learning about boating is important to you, our Club has received recognition for the quality of its education programs. In 2009, the Southern California Yachting Association named our Club “Yacht Club of the Year”, an honor we have achieved 9 times over the last 11 years.
If returning from a cruise, or driving in from home, our beautiful 10,000 square foot Clubhouse atShoreline Marina is there for your enjoyment. The well-planned and modern facility includes meeting rooms; a dining room with capacity to seat nearly 100 guests; a professional kitchen and staff; a full bar with a large lounge, and a huge deck. The Clubhouse is open daily to its members. Food and beverage service is available four nights a week in our dining room or at the “Burgee Bar.” On weekdays, our honor bar allows members to purchase beer and wine. The Burgee Bar is a comfortable, friendly place where you can socialize, watch TV, or netsurf.
We believe that a membership at Shoreline Yacht Club represents an excellent value for your boating time and dollar. An affordable initiation fee of $500.00 and monthly dues at $85.00 is all that is needed to sign up as a regular member; however, we have other membership options. If interested in becoming a member, please fill out the attached application form and return it to the Club and you will be contacted.
If you need additional information, please contact me at your earliest convenience.
