Boating Education
 
Are you looking for a way to build your confidence in handling your boat and enjoy boating more? Have we got a series of classes for you! Shoreline Yacht club promotes boating safety and understanding our marine environment, both among our members and within all of Long Beach. From February to November, we hold Wednesday night classes from 7 to 9:15 PM in the education classroom at the yacht club. Please check our education calendar for the most up-to-date details. Did you know you can get your Basic Coastal Navigation certificate through Shoreline Yacht Club? It’s true! We offer the full schedule of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary BCN program. Your certificate from this course satisfies both state and insurance company requirements, in most cases. Class size is set at 20 students for optimum learning, and the entire course, including materials, costs just $70. The Basic Coastal Navigation curriculum includes:
 
• Introduction to coastal navigation
• The marine magnetic compass
• The nautical chart
• The navigator’s tools & instruments
• Dead reckoning
• Piloting
• Review, quiz and certificate
