Rod Goodman K3ROD teaches Ham license classes here at SYC with unusual success. Rod's 2 day classes are followed by a FCC license exam and almost 100% of the class members pass the federal exams. This years classes will be offered on Jan 19 & 20 for the beginning Technician license and March 1st and 2nd for the General license class. In 2008 SARA will meet at the Yacht Club the Fourth Wednesday of each month at 7PM for educational presentations and event planning. We also have a radio net every Wednesday night at 7:00 pm on 2 Meters: 146.805 Mhz giving us a chance to practice using our radios. If you are within the range of the repeater and you are licensed, you can participate. If you are interested, please email Randy Graham ragraham1@earthlink.net and he will provide the PL to program into your radio to activate the repeater. After our first successful HAM radio Special Event (see pictures below) Sara is planning other 2008 HAM radio special events. The first will be held April 19th 2008, the Saturday of Grand Prix weekend attracting HAMs from all over the country to contact us via radio and receive a special QSL card highlighting SYC and the Long Beach Grand Prix. SARA members also serve SYC throughout the year by providing communication support for the club's many activities, both on and off the water, playing a major role at Regattas, Opening Day, and the Parade of 1000 Lights. The K6SYC radio station currently has equipment that allows communications on all popular amateur radio bands as well as VHF Marine radio. For more information please contact Randy Graham, 2008 K6SYC Chief Operator.
