Shoreline Young Sailors

Shoreline Young Sailors is a fledgling organization of Shoreline Yacht Club. The purpose of this program is to introduce kids, between the ages of 8 and 16, to the joys of safe and proper handling of small sailboats. It is our hope to educate members' children, as well as children from the community at large, regarding boating safety and to promote sailing and sailboat racing.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Shoreline Young Sailors program will train kids in the handling of small sailboats, Sabots, including rigging, basic sailing, rules of the road and racing techniques Members will have the opportunity to learn basic sailing or to hone skills already gained. In addition to on the water training, classroom training will be utilized to teach basics.

The young Sailors will also have the opportunity to take part in special events, which will take place during the year, inc1uding a day sail aboard a tall ship, a trip to the Long beach Aquarium of the Pacific and a day trip aboard the U.S.S. Lane Victory.

WHO CAN JOIN

Shoreline Young Sailors is open to the immediate family and close friends of Shoreline Yacht Club members. It is also to be made available to children within the community whose parents are not members of Shoreline Yacht Club.

YOUNG SAILORS MEETINGS

Shoreline Young Sailors will meet at Shoreline Yacht Club monthly. Consult our Calendar in Shorelines, at the clubhouse or on our website. Participants and their parents should attend as many meetings as possible and retain for the entire time, in order to obtain the most value from the program.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SUPPORT OUR PROGRAM?

Even if you have no children or grandchildren, you are invited to take part in the program. Financial support is very welcome, of course. Become involved in our fund-raisers, if you can. Further, it is anticipated that we will wish to have sponsors for each of Our Sabots. Sponsors will be responsible for upkeep and maintenance of their particular sailboat and it would be hoped they would also teach the what, why and how of maintenance to our kids.

Perhaps you have particular skills or knowledge that you would be willing to teach to our Young Sailors. Again, we are a fledgling organization, and any help will be gratefully accepted.
